Pediatric Orthotics Clinic at fisio March 28, 2015
One day soon the fields will be filled with our children running outside playing their favorite Spring sport. I know it is hard to believe that all this snow will be gone soon, but a few good warm days and we will be ready to enjoy the outdoors. Often children involved in sports complain of foot, ankle and knee pain. Many times this can be attributed to the foot alignment and lack of good support in the sneakers or cleats.
At fisio we have had the pleasure of treating many kids who present with hip, knee or back issues which are related to their foot anatomy. We have found by treating the child through the use of orthotics, that it has eliminated their pain and improved their sports performance. Growing pains that many children experience can be alleviated by providing good support to their feet to lessen the impact on their bones. Most cleats do not provide the necessary arch support and result in callouses and foot pain for children.
Jackie Matthews a recent patient at fisio played sports for years with foot pain. She was seen for one visit and issued orthotics. Here is her Mother’s testimonial: “Jackie is on cloud nine–as her orthotics have made a huge difference and she acclimated, immediately. She is even wearing them in her cleats.”
Heather Kwap brought her 3 year old son in after seeing two orthopedists regarding her concerns over his gait and foot pain. “When he was old enough to communicate, he complained of pain in his joints. Since he started walking I noticed that he pronated and was clumsy. After being fitted for Little Steps orthotics, he has had no knee or ankle pain, walks straight and is not as clumsy. I instantly saw a difference in how he moved.”
